Today, August 3, 2012 is National Watermelon Day!! Over at the National Watermelon Promotion Board website there are a few fun activities for the kiddies. There are two pretty cool looking downloadable coloring books, an activity sheet, a watermelon quiz and other fun facts!
Now that the kids are busy, it’s time to make some watermelon granitas for the parents! This drink is delicious, refreshing and super easy!
- 6 c. fresh watermelon
- 1/4 c. lime juice
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 2/3 c. vodka (IF DESIRED) I used 1/2 c. and it was perfect for me.
Puree watermelon. Add sugar and lime juice. Puree until dissolved. Pour into 13×9 baking pan. Freeze 2.5 hours. Stir each hour. (I let mine sit overnight after stirring twice and they were just fine.)
To serve: Let stand 10 minutes and scrape into chilled glasses.
Y to the YUM.
