MH9002724141Today, August 3, 2012 is National Watermelon Day!! Over at the National Watermelon Promotion Board website there are a few fun activities for the kiddies. There are two pretty cool looking downloadable coloring books, an activity sheet, a watermelon quiz and other fun facts!

Now that the kids are busy, it’s time to make some watermelon granitas for the parents! This drink is delicious, refreshing and super easy!

Ingredients

  • 6 c. fresh watermelon
  • 1/4 c. lime juice
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. vodka (IF DESIRED) I used 1/2 c. and it was perfect for me.

Directions

Puree watermelon. Add sugar and lime juice. Puree until dissolved. Pour into 13×9 baking pan. Freeze 2.5 hours. Stir each hour. (I let mine sit overnight after stirring twice and they were just fine.)

To serve: Let stand 10 minutes and scrape into chilled glasses.

Y to the YUM.
