My thoughts on the Aurora shooting

by Jill on July 20, 2012

I’m overwhelmed with emotion. I woke to an overwhelming amount of facebook messages, tweets, e-mails wanting to know that we are okay. WE ARE OKAY! We were not directly affected by the Aurora theater shooting and as of right now no one that I know personally was either.

At 10:10 AM on Friday, July 20th, 2012, the e-mails are still coming in… “hope you’re ok” and “just checking in”.  I am beyond words touched by the support and thoughts.

I’m humbled that the entire nation is focused on what has happened in Colorado. I know that I have built relationships online, on twitter, on facebook, on Instagram even, but never has it been more clear that they stretch far beyond the computer screen as it is this morning.

This blog post was written on June 5th, 2012 by Jessica Ghawi (aka Jessica Redfield), a girl that was killed last night in the theater. You will cry so get your tissue ready. Her story is unbelievably devastating, but her message is clear… “I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.” I hope that this is a lesson to all of us.

Closing thought:

Senseless acts such as this are just that; senseless. We won’t ever have answers, we won’t ever know why, WE are just left to move forward in our lives even in the very moment others stop. Even in the wake of such senseless devastation, we link arms and we plow forward vowing to hug our loved ones. Living every second of your life with reverence is the best gift that you can give to the victims by not letting these monsters take lives in vain. Surely, horrific events like this will continue to happen, but living a true and honest life will assure you and those around you live and you die with no regrets.
