I have never really been one to be “cutting edge” and “first in the neighborhood” to have anything. I like to think it’s because I am a careful decider; weighing all of the options and pros and cons of every.thing. It can sort of drive me crazy, but I can ill afford to misspend being on a tight budget. So I research and learn all I can about the subject at hand.
Honestly, I have to wonder what has taken me so long to weigh the benefits of solar power being such a savvy money saver and all. I think it just overwhelmed me and had heard that it was really expensive to have panels installed.
I have definitely made big changes over the last few years to make my house run a little cleaner with a composter, energy saving light bulbs and recycling service. Yet still held solar panels at bay. Solar panels are actually the cleanest way to run a house using energy directly from the sun. With the amount of sunshine we get in Colorado it is really a wonder every house isn’t set up with Sunrun’s solar service.
When I sat down and did some actual research behind solar power I found that Sunrun is an amazing resource and I learned that I actually know very little about solar power. And what I thought I knew was all wrong.
I thought that solar panels were expensive to have installed and that they were just way too confusing for me to try to understand. Here is what I found:
Misconception: Solar is expensive and has a high upfront cost.
Reality: With Sunrun solar leasing, homeowners can get solar on their roof for as little as $0 down and start saving on their monthly electricity costs immediately.
I had no idea that a solar lease was possible. This means no high cost to have the panels installed! Part of the fee that you’ll pay each month will go towards the lease cost of the panels. And this will STILL be less expensive than your monthly energy bill.
Misconception: Solar is complicated and out of reach.
Reality: Solar service providers like Sunrun take care of all of the details of going solar, from designing the system, installing it on your roof, monitoring the system’s production, and maintaining the system throughout the lifetime of the solar service agreement.
This is probably the one thing that has allowed me to turn the corner and seriously explore putting panels on my house. For real. I assumed that it would be complicated and just way too much for me to handle being on my own. I mean, owning a house is difficult in itself so I really wasn’t willing to sign up for something that was going to cause me more hassle. Sunrun makes the process sound so easy that I literally cannot ignore my lack of solar panels for two more seconds.
Misconception: Solar energy is more expensive than the electricity my utility provides.
Reality: If Sunrun doesn’t think they can save you money, they won’t sell you a system.
Sunrun will come to your house, do an entire evaluation and provide you a plan. Not to mention that your prices are LOCKED IN. No increases. Even when your regularly utility bill increases, as it has done frequently over the last few years!
After learning all about Sunrun solar services I asked my friends on facebook what they thought about solar. Two of them have dates to have panels installed and one wants to know more of what I find out!! Where have I been?
I am super excited now and feel kind of silly for being so intimidated by such an amazing system.
Sunrun solar is a win-win. Good for your wallet and good for the planet.

I watched this video and the whole thing “clicked” for me. I need to have solar panels on my house. We all do.
