I feel like the world has gotten far less “friendly” in the last few years.
Either that or my level of intolerance has plummeted. Which I’m cool if that’s the case because I don’t think my expectations are wildly out of this world.
Yesterday some friends and I went to the movies to see Magic Mike (woot!). There were five of us. We bought our tickets and two of us went and got seats. Three of us grabbed drinks.
When the three of us walked in and walked toward our friends waving at us as they scooted two women walking up the stairs in front of us walked in and sat right in the middle of those three seats leaving one open on the end. And let me mention that the theater wasn’t full by any means.
But we walked in and I asked the two ladies if they would mind scooting over one (to the end) because our friends had just moved over for us when they saw us walk in. One girl immediately scooted and the other girl said “well I didn’t see the reserved sign”. I was like “are you kidding me? Did you not just see them wave at us and move over as we walked up the stairs?”
So I walked to the other end of my four seated friends. But I REALLY should have just sat down on the end and made it really awkward.
And after I sat at the other end, which was fine, they got up and left the theater. Seriously!
Today, I’m in pain. My shoulder is killing me and I cannot find relief so I called my doctor’s office, the one who I’ve been going to for 16 years, and was told they could get me in on Friday. Um, NO. I was instantly pissed so I asked if I should just hang up and call back with a sore throat. She said “ummm…”. I told her that that just wasn’t going to work that I was in PAIN. Like, this close to tears, pain. Lo and behold a 1:30 opened up.
I’m telling this story to a coworker and he says “you should just call my doctor.” I gave it a whirl. Here’s me calling as a new patient… “Hi, I am not currently a patient there, but a friend of mine recommended your office so I’m calling to see if it would be possible for me to make an appointment.” She says, “could you come in today? And would morning or afternoon work better?”
I don’t expect this of any doctor’s office. I don’t expect that this will happen again, but you know what? THIS is customer service.
It’s frickin 9:30 and my appointment was made for 10:30. So…
Peace! I’m out. Gotta run and meet my new doc.

It’s funny you talk about this because my 19 year old daughter has mentioned how rude people are and that people serving others really don’t give a sh** about others. Customer service people should be more courteous, but unfortunately that is no longer a requirement. They either don’t want to assist in any manner, they have an attitude or just don’t want to work. In any case don’t let anyone take your sunshine away.
YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! THERE ARE DEFINITELY MORE RUDE PEOPLE OUT THERE. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SMACK THE MOVIE WOMAN!!!! WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT ABOUT????
HOPE YOUR FEELING BETTER! SMILE THERE ARE A FEW GOOD PEEPS LEFT OUT THERE ;]
I would be lying if I said I didn’t have visions of popping her.
Thank you for your kind words.
