Right now our family calendar is nutty. Crazy nutty. The four of us are never home at the same time during waking hours right now and when we are I am barking orders about chores and homework. I’m not proud, it’s just reality. So when I realized that we were all going to be home Monday night I cashed in on the buy two Safeway Select pizzas and get a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper FREE deal going on at Safeway RIGHT NOW and pulled out a deck of cards for a “friendly” game of War.
We haven’t tried the Safeway Select frozen pizzas yet so we chose the five cheese pepperoni (safe option) and the chicken bacon alfredo (sounds awesome and everything tastes better with bacon option) pizza. And Diet Dr. Pepper!
We laughed so hard we cried. We laughed because we were laughing. We laughed because when teenage boys laugh they sound well, like, a little bit like injured sea lions. Okay, a lot. We laughed when ‘one of us’ was puzzled by a 9-6 throwdown combination, I won’t mention any names… But I will note that 9 IS bigger than 6 no matter which direction you turn the cards. 
We laughed because we had a ‘quad war’. And laughed even harder when I thought they meant quad as in four-wheeler. Um…. War. Four times.
Horrible attempts at Spanish were made, the words “el stupido” were used more than once and this??? Was NOT directed at me.
I can’t even put into words what a great time we had on a week night after a loooong weekend away from home and after Monday night soccer practice. All it took was an awesome Dr. Pepper deal at Safeway (and who doesn’t love FREE Dr. Pepper?), 15 minutes in the oven and a deck of cards. I highly recommend and judging by the fact that there was not even a crumb left of EITHER pizza I think we had a winner of a Monday night! And… guess who was out first? Not that I’m competitive or anything.
