For the record that’s $101 per minute!
I’m talking about my home tv/phone/internet bundle. And we’ve talked about it on facebook a few times here and here. The second post got a lot of chatter!! People are feeling the squeeze and do not like what Comcast is doing to us.
I’ve been bundling with Comcast since I moved into this house almost exactly 7 years ago. I’ve been paying the bill, the internet works, the home phone stays in its stands, the movies we want to see play………
But I just kept paying a SUPER HIGH bill. A bill that I know friend’s of mine pay less for. So we had lunch conversation about who has what and how much they pay. I was getting SCREWED.
My bill was $213 per month. The base of the recurring charges was $195.70. OOOOOOOOUCUUUUUCH.
A friend of mine has comcast, has Starz, HBO and the NFL package for less than $200! What the hail? But when I called to get some relief last year they said “we’ll be sorry to see you go.”
Right now as I have a lot of financial pressures bearing down on me I am much more attuned to regularly monthly costs. I’ve been considering trying to lower my Comcast bill, I just really didn’t want to have to deal with making changes and new set ups…. BUT the current pressures were just enough to make me make the move.
So I went to Build a Qwest Bundle and Save! And save I am!
If you go online and research CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) you will find a five year guarantee, but ask them for the THREE YEAR guarantee. This plan has better prices. And they are guaranteed for three years.
I am getting everything I have now phone w/ unlimited calls, high speed internet and Direct TV with free movie channels for three months and the NFL channel for the entire season. For $127 BASE! If I decide I want to add HBO it will be an extra $12 per month. I’m going to see how we can do without it.
These prices are guaranteed for THREE years. $2,488!
Remember my $195 base at Comcast? Subtract $127 from CenturyLink and that = $68 per month.
$68 per month for 3 years is $2,488. I was on the phone with the CenturyLink agent for 24 minutes.
All it took was 24 minutes on the phone to make the change! A change that will be measurable for the next three years!
Always looking ahead and hyper-sensitive about the end of the three years I asked her what would happen. She said that the cable price I am currently paying would definitely go up $20, but other than that no changes were anticipated. Well, “no anticipated changes” doesn’t really give me the warm fuzzies. SO I asked what happened if it went up higher and I couldn’t afford. She said that there were plenty of offers that they could use. Some of them are good customer credits that they can put in place for a year.
Just the customer service was a much better feel. I am writing this post via my new CenturyLink router and my tv gets switched over tomorrow. So far so good. Here comes the monies……..
PS Stay tuned because I saved a whole lot more with my trash company this week too!

LOVE savings like these!
Now that is awesome!
We can’t get internet (GASP) or cable where I live… and we’re only 5 – 7 minutes from town! I think that it stops about a mile down the road from me which is crazy. Whatevs…. we have a T1 line which is dedicated internet but honestly… it is slow compared to what everyone else in the world has.
We are trying to do the same thing – pare down our regular bills. Not sure if we have CenturyTel available here. The name is only vaguely familiar – I think it may be in parts of our state, but maybe not our area. We have Cox, and we have plain-ole, ordinary cable. Pretty much cable is the cheapest, and our bill is about $130/month for cable, phone, internet. We do not have access to order movies or do internet rentals. We looked into Dish TV a while back but we were concerned that we would not have some of the channels we wanted. Also, like you, I don’t like the intro period with rates subject to change. Cox sends us deals all the time to upgrade “free” or for $6.99″ for 3 months, 6 months, etc. But it’s the after I worry about. It’s just not easy!!!!
That’s a huge savings!! Does their guarantee lock you in at the internet speed though? I know that my speed has increased a lot in the last 3 years just because technology gets better.
Not sure if the speed changes? I did get the highest speed though and it has been great! SO glad I made the change.
