Does this photo invoke visions of big tall hats and ice cold lemonade for anyone else???
If it doesn’t you’re probably too young to remember Hot Dog on a Stick at the mall.
I have been eyeing this homemade corn dog recipe that I tore out of Food Network magazine for quite some time. It was a great lunch for a lazy Sunday. I used my ancient FryDaddy and it worked perfectly except that it was a little too small for frying bun length dogs………
Oops. So from here on out I cut the hot dogs in half and fried them without the stick and added the stick later.
Ingredients:
- hot dogs
- sticks (skewers)
- oil
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cornmeal
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 c milk
- 1 egg
Directions:
Mix flour and cornmeal. Add baking powder, sugar, dry mustard and salt. I had to add extra salt because my first corn dog came out really bland so test it after your first one.
Whisk in milk and egg.
Dredge in flour. I actually messed this part up and didn’t dredge. The batter had a hard time sticking to the dog. We had some pretty cool shaped corn dogs though.
Dip into batter.
Fry until golden brown.
Stick a stick in it and enjoy!
