Copycat KFC Cole Slaw recipe

Cole Slaw

Something about sunshine and being outside makes my mouth water for some good cole slaw. And if that’s not enough reason this terrible picture I took is making me want to make the cole slaw this weekend just so I can have a better photo. Heh. Heh.

Pretty sure that this recipe is the best homemade cole slaw recipe I’ve ever tasted. Some can be too watery, too vinegary, too cabbagey, too… this one comes out just right for my tastes. No complaints from the boys either. Oy and they’d let me know instantly.

No more stopping at KFC on the way to a potluck to grab some coleslaw. Make your own. (Done it a few times myself…)

KFC Cole Slaw Recipe

Ingredient

  • 8 c. shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 c. shredded carrots
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. mayonnaise
  • 1/4 c. buttermilk (I have a recipe on how to make your own buttermilk.)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice

Directions

In a large bowl mix cabbage and carrots.

In a separate mixing bowl combine all remaining ingredients thoroughly.

Combine liquid ingredients with cabbage and carrot mixture and stir well.

Refrigerate at least two hours before serving.

You definitely want to let it sit before you eat it. This gives a chance for the cabbage to take on the flavor and not be so “cabbagey”.

No buttemilk? Here is a recipe to make your own buttermilk in 5 minutes. All you need is milk and white vinegar!
