Cheekbones and Clavicles – Medifast Week 5: “Have you lost weight?”

“Have you lost weight?”

That question right there has repeatedly been asked of me in my dreams. And it has been something I have desperately wanted to hear since starting Medifast five weeks ago.

I work in an office environment where some of my coworkers work out of their home so it is very possible that our paths don’t cross for a few weeks at a time. Today everyone was in the office.

And it happened.

One of the guys asked me if I had lost weight! I don’t even care if it was rhetorical since everyone knows that I’m working very hard to lose weight and that I bite heads off when asked if I want a Frosty on an afternoon run to Wendy’s, which has become a DAILY habit since, oh… about FIVE WEEKS AGO!

So I gladly offered up that I had lost NINE lbs and celebrated my inner skinny girl.

When I started out on this weight loss journey I thought that the first ten pounds would be the first celebration point. But I was wrong. I celebrated at 2 lbs, at 5 lbs, at 7 lbs, at my finishing my first kickboxing class, and now I’m celebrating my first “have you lost weight?” question.

My muffin top is GONE. I’m not spilling out of my jeans, and I am wearing one size smaller than I was five weeks ago. I can’t say that any of it has been glamorous. Every step of the way takes a whole lotta hard work. It takes digging deep. Pushing harder. Walking one more minute than you did yesterday. Hitting harder when you have nothing left. Waiting one more hour before you eat again. Being stronger than you ever thought you could be. Saying no. Keeping your eye on the prize.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve lost more than 9 lbs of fat, but with walking (47 miles) and killme kickboxing classes I am gaining muscle back. And you know what they say……….. muscle weighs more than fat.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Anyhoo, I am so looking forward to hitting double digits next week. I just know it’s gonna happen. All of my hard work WILL be rewarded.

Eye on the prize.
