Today I am talking college textbooks and how to get them at a lower cost than some places.
I was so busy over the last several months that I never even wrote a post about me going back to school, although I talked, or rather whined, about it on facebook. Yep, both my 18 year old and I went for fall semester. I have tried twice in the last 15 years to go back and finally get my degree to no avail. It was too time consuming with three kids. It was too expense. The prices of textbooks were crazy. It was all just too much with three kids.
College, even community college, is expense. Tack on the cost of textbooks and Whoa. No wonder I have yet to finish.
So, I made it through the fall semester unscathed and with a 4.0. You guys, I took three classes. While I working a full-time job and blogging!! I didn’t sleep much. My son also got a 4.0 in his first semester so it was sort of fun to congratulate each other. I did tell him that I would be getting all A’s while working and supporting my family so I expected the same of him since his only responsibility was school and baseball. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody, right?!
Anyway, as I’m preparing for spring semester for both my son and I to start back up we went through my three classes and his five and jotted down the textbooks we are going to need.
Eight not cheap textbooks.
Ouch. In the fall it had been a while since I’d been in the market for textbooks so we made the rookie mistakes of using the campus bookstore. Well, not this semester. Nope.
I heard about Half.com (an eBay company) during the semester and I used them for almost all of our eight books for the spring semester. Of course, I price checked with other online stores where you can buy books and Half was definitely cheaper.
For one of my classes, the book I need is available at Half.com to buy brand new for as low as $180, used for $129 and to rent for $75 . On another site the very same textbook is $226 to buy new, about $125 to buy used and $84 to rent.
When you add up the difference and multiply that times eight books, that is going to save me a ton of money.
And…. since one of my new year’s resolutions is always to stay on budget and save money, I am super excited to have found great prices for college textbooks.
PS Half.com doesn’t just have textbooks. They have books books. Like, regular books. At amazing prices!
* If you use my links I’ll earn a coupla pennies to help pay for those books. That doesn’t sway my positive opinion of using Half.com because who doesn’t want to save money!? Also, it doesn’t cost you extra to click on my links either.
