My youngest plays soccer, and it is a year-round sport at the competitive level. As soon as the temps start to drop outside they move it indoors. They play two seasons indoor and two seasons outdoor. We get very little break and even when there is a break in games, my son’s team is on the field practicing. Keeping the boys fueled up and hydrated is easy with the Powerade Game 12-pack and some fresh fruit!
Soccer schedules are just crazy. I thought that my schedule would ease up when my baseball player went off to college and I just had the soccer player’s schedule to deal with. Boy, was I wrong!
I love it though. This team of boys is that team that you see movies made about. These kids are now three full years undefeated in regular season games. They have won every tournament they’ve played in except one. At the time they were still a rec team and they played up two levels of competitive teams in preparation for a Vegas tournament. They took second. For a rec team to beat competitive teams just shows you the heart that they bring to the field each and every game.
Every single day I am thankful for this team and their coaches who push them harder than they thought was possible. The boys put in the work, they love each other and it shows in each post-game huddle. (Ugh, I get emotional thinking about how amazing they are!) But I can honestly say I have never seen a team, be a TEAM. These boys are amazing.
They leave everything on the field. The boys’ games and practices are so crazy. I’m talking run the stairs at 8AM on a Saturday crazy. If the schedule hasn’t worn me down, the amount of physical activity those boys put in does. Because those boys work so hard during their games we (the parents) usually take turns in bringing snacks to keep the boys fueled and hydrated.
For me, with my single parent schedule, and my desire to keep the boys fueled, I stop in at Walmart and grab the Powerade game 12-pack. Powerade does not contain any fruit juice.
Fresh fruit complements Powerade perfectly and I like to serve Powerade and fresh fruit as great snacks to energize the players.
I also grab a small bag of ice while I’m at Walmart. Before the game starts, I throw the ice in the buckets and then put the Powerade and fruit on ice so that when the boys come off the field it is cold and ready to refuel and rehydrate them!
I try to mix up the fruit because some of the boys like Cuties and some of them would rather munch on an apple. Either way, they come off the field and grab what they’re after.
As much as I sometimes complain about the hectic soccer schedule, doing my part to keep the boys hydrated is the easy part and it is the least I can do. The boys are the ones that put in all the hard work and the coaches are busy coaching. Like I said, we’re a family and we all have our part in keeping the family running like the steam engine locomotive we are.
Those Powerade Game 12-packs are awesome, huh!? They come in a convenient 12 pack of 12 oz Powerade bottles. You can find them in the beverage aisle of your local Walmart as seen below. All it takes is five minutes to run in, grab the Powerade Game 12-pack, some fresh fruit and don’t forget the bag of ice!
